It depends on how much of it you drink. Your body is used to the ions in water and uses them to balance out your pH levels. If you drink a small amount of deionized water, you'll be fine. If, however, you only drink deionized water, or a lot of your daily water ingestion is deionized water (ie you drink 5 glasses of water a day and one is deionized), then you may run into health problems, with the likelihood of problems increasing as the ratio of deionized water to regular water increases.

In short, if you don't drink it in large quantities and don't drink it often it's perfectly healthy, but if you do either of these it can be dangerous.

A long time ago I worked in a lab that tissue culture and drank distilled water which contains no ions.
First of all it tastes lousy. It has abolutely no taste. It is like drinking air. If you look at the labels of some bottled water they actually add small amounts of minerals to improve the taste.
As others have said it won't hurt you unless you dring a huge volume a day. Most of your minerals in your diet come from food and drinks like milk and orange juice.

Well, I am a chemist. Yes, deionized water will harm you. The cells in your body will eventually bloat up if you have to much. The minerals in water prevent this.

I'm guessing you're talking about the myth that it will explode your cells because of diffusion. Nothing bad will happen unless you drink more than a gallon of it in a short period of time. It can speed up the rate at which water intoxication (water poisoning) takes place, since it will remove electrolytes from your body to balance chemically with it.

To the extent that essential minerals are removed from the water, it may be less healthy than spring water. It all depends how much you drink and what else you eat and drink.

no but the thing is you wont get any ions (such as sodium, chloride, potassium etc) that are found in normal drinking water.. keep in mind these ions are essential to life and proper functioning so i would just stick with regular water

No it wont harm you. It dosnt provide any minerals like tap water does, but by itself it is not harmful.
