losing acceleration up a steep hill?

giving more gas or downshifting to 3rd gear don't help on this Mitsu mighty max 5 speed truck.Tranny or clutch?

Does the engine rev up higher the slower you go up a hill. This could be the clutch plate is worn out , needs adjusting or the pressure plate is weak. Do you smell something that smells like hot brakes as you go up a hill? that nails it down to the clutch and pressure plate assembly. Replace the clutch and pressure plate , have the flywheel machined or if too gouged up replace it. Proper adjustment and take it easy on the assembly for awhile. then it should be fine.
