I put a pond in my backyard and have a pump (no filter though) that is 3 ft deep. I need to know if there is something I need to do to prepare the pond for gold fish or if I can just put them in? Do I need to treat the water, or get a filter, or get a heater???

Goldfish are some tough critters, so as long as the water isn't completely foul or laden with chemicals, they'll get along just fine. The only thing I see coming towards you really soon without having a filter is some very green water from algae bloom. You can treat it with chemicals, but that will get expensive quickly. Since you are already pumping water, you might want to consider putting in a filter and uv sterilizer to take care of your soon to be algae problem.

A heater for the winter only it floats at the top keeps it from completely freezing. Also if its all tap water wait a couple days before you put in the fish if you just filled it. If you do not have plants or even if you do get a little food and feed them every once in a while (weekly)
