no...... i am not sure if it is a fire hazard but you may burn the ballast up prematurely.... and everyone thinks the CFL's are the wave of the future but did anyone think of how to dispose of them????... they contain mercury .... you cannot just throw them in the trash.... unless you don't care about the environment

No. CFL bulbs have gas inside them and not filiments (the little wire that glows in an incandesent bulb). The electricity reacts with the gas for light. The amount of mercury is so small. it is almost insignificant.
