I just bought a 2003 Chev Tracker and the brakes started squealing a couple of days after I started driving it. I took it back in and they told me, after they drove it a couple of days, that the brakes were new and it took time for them to set. Then the squealing would stop. They don't squeal every time. But most of the time.

I had the same problem with my Grand Am. Since I bought it used, I made them put new brakes on it, but they still squeaked (not badly, more of a grinding noise) they still do it with the new brakes on, and it's been over 2 years. There is a brake sprray you can buy at any auto parts store that is supposed to help with new brakes squeeling.

You can stop the noise Have them take the pads out and put an anti squeal coating on the back of the pads let dry a bit and re install the pads ,there are a number of coatings available, there are even gasket type material's that keeps the pad from transferring the noise trough to the back of the backing plate. when the vibrations hit the backing plate they can transfer the noise to the caliper which transfers noise . People don' t always use these products but a good shop should

Some breaks squeal no matter what. If it is a harder type if break (higher grade) they tend to squeak most of the time. Softer ones squeak for a while and then quit. Make sure they are really new breaks and the dealer didn't just tell you that. If they are old they may be worn down to the "squealer".
