report violations in credit or debt collections?
For example, SEC controls financial trades, FCC controls radio and television....

Who do I contact to report illegal debt collection practices?

Verizon phone uses AFNI to collect debts and I just now found out I'm in debt $300 to em from seven years ago?!?. I did a google search on "Verizon AFNI" and found many people reporting it as a rip off double billing or not even their responsibility. I need to know who the reporting agency is so I can use it as a velvet hammer to get to the bottom of the situation.
Thanks!

Your State Attorney General's office would be the first place to start. The Federal Trade Commission, FTC, enforces the FDCPA but it is unlikely they will do much to help you. Check your state for other state agencies and look online for class action lawsuits.

Good luck.

Contact the BBB in the city nearest you. They will have the numbers to get you to the right agencies and to the bottom of the situation.
