No, this is an old wive's tale. I was very active during my pregnancy. I knew my limits and never pushed past them, but I put my son's entire nursery together with minimal help from my ex-husband who was at work while I was bored at home. Carrying groceries and reaching for things up high won't hurt you unless you're have a high risk pregnancy...then you should take it a little easier.

It is true that you shouldn't stretch but that's not why. Stretching like that can pull some desperately stretched muscles in your abdomen. The cord and baby free-float in the amniotic fluid, sometimes they little buggers can manage to tangle themselves in the cord on the way out but it isn't anything to worry about. Don't stretch to protect your muscles.

Lol!
I'm amazed that people still think this is real.
I think that this was just some pregnant womans excuse to get out of doing some work a long time ago, and it stuck.

No, it's not true!

Lol, that's something that "momma 'nem" would say. They were very cautious in the old days, but it is actually ok. Stretching is encouraged. They also say not to sweep or vacuum, which you can do as well.

But as always, check with the doctor.

Exercise during pregnancy is the single most important thing to avoid weight gain and staying in shape during your pregnancy. Researchers have found that this can be dangerous to both the mom and baby's health. To take extra care of both yourself and your baby it is highly important that you start a healthy diet plan to reduce your appetite and workout with exercise during pregnancy day by day.

So how do I know what's the right exercise during pregnancy? At first, it is very important to know that too much exercising during pregnancy is as wrong as being too stationery without any exercise.

But what's wrong with no exercise during pregnancy? During pregnancy your body becomes a bit off balance because of the extra weight gain. This and the position on the foetus can cause a lot of stress on your back. Through workout it is possible to avoid a lot of back pain by strengthening your back muscles.

Another problem with being too stationery during pregnancy is that you can gain too quickly too much weight. Doctors recommend that you not gain any weight during the first trimester. During the second and third trimester you should gain about a pound per week. By gaining more than the recommended amount it can cause cardiovascular health problems for you and the baby.

Getting too much exercise during pregnancy can also be injurious for you and your baby. Too many exercises puts too much stress on your body. Additional stress can cause you to severely injure your body, because ligaments of a woman become more fragile during pregnancy in order to adjust to a growing body and the growth of a foetus. Exercising too much can also affect a disadvantage for the proper development of the baby. Sometimes a miscarriage can even occur since the development of the baby is affected so much.

So how do I know how much to exercise during pregnancy? Basically getting a good twenty minutes of exercise in each day should be enough for holding mom and baby healthy. Normally you can doing exercise more than this, but you have to be careful about the type of exercise that you are practicing. The most beneficial types of exercise you could do during pregnancy are swimming, walking, and yoga. You have to avoid anything that involves bouncing, getting your heart rate up too high, or the possibility of falling. Non-contact sports are all right to continue with as long as you do not overwork yourself and you're extremely careful with your body. If you love jogging, this is great to go along. But remember that you should limit your daily workout to a maximum of two miles during your pregnancy.

So if you are already pregnant, or you are planning on going to having a baby start an exercise routine right away. Safe exercise during pregnancy is the right way to hold you and baby healthy and to stay in shape during your pregnancy. One more very important recommendation is to talk to your doctor or a nutritionist on how to have a healthy diet for the expectant months, since proper dieting is very important for you and your baby as well.
