I had twin girls in march and after delivery i still cannot get an answer as to weather or not they are identical or fraternal. As soon as they where born i asked the doc if i had one placenta or two.He told me one.My husband saw for himself that it did indeed look like one and after that the doc went on another delivery and the nurses cleand me up i hear the nurse ask another if the placenta was to be sent to pathology and the other nurse told her yes since i had twins it would need to be tested.my complaint is that 3 wks later i asked my obgyn about the pathology report and he said he wouldnt know that i would hafta ask the girls pediatrician!!!!I know for a fact that i had 2 seprate amnio sacs and what looked like one placenta, but not sure about chioron. At every pediatrican visit i mention this situation, but never get answers.I think that my placenta was trashed. What should i do?and will a dna test tell me for sure? please help im sooo frustrated!!!!

I'm not sure what exactly you should do that you aren't doing now. It sounds like you're being diligent enough about finding out from the doctors. If the pediatrician keeps evading the question, you might want to ask why...don't let him/her leave until you get an answer. If you still don't get an answer, I'd advise you to find another pediatrician. If he/she isn't telling you something now, what else could he/she hide in the future. It sounds like they are identical twins since identical twins are formed from the same egg (I believe they would have different amniotic sacs but the same placenta). I would think that a DNA test would give you the results since fraternal twins do not have the same DNA, but identical twins do. Try not to get too frustrated, though I know it can be annoying. Congratulations on your two beautiful girls!

Do they look 100% exactly ?
One placenta and 2 sacs sounds weird ... Normally theres 2 sacs 2 placentas ... Do you have the pictures of ultrasounds and try to ask the pediatrician if she or he can look at the pictures and see if there was 1 sac and 1 placenta ...
I have a Identical twin nieces and they looked so much alike when they were born ...
I know the DNA would help ... Theres a website below to check it out ... $$ but would ease your frustration ...
Good Luck and congratulations on the twins!

Fraternal twins usually do not share placentas. Each have their own placenta and amniotic sac. They are basically womb neighbours.
Having said that, in some cases, the two placentas can fuse together and give the impression of being one placenta.
Some fraternal twins look almost identical. Twin Zygosity Test is a popular way to find out if your babies are in fact identical.

It is a bit shaky when there are two amniotic sacs, you can demand your records. Just because it was sent to pathology, or supposed to be doesn't mean it was. The doctor should have been able to tell you with an ultrasound before the girls were born if they were fraternal or identical. If your doctor will not answer your question, its time to find a new doctor. Unless one of the girls should develop a health issue later in life, it isn't really necessary to know whether they are fraternal or identical but I can understand why you want to and would want to know myself.
Good luck

Wow, how frustrating for you. I would ask (demand) to see my records. Also, ask (demand) your pediatrician to give you an answer. They are getting paid lots of money for their services, the least they can do is answer your questions or tell you when and/or where you can get the answers. Make another appointment and when you are there tell them you will not leave the room without an answer of some sort. With the medical establishment you have to be very assertive and confident. Good luck!

I understand why you would be so frustrated.
Do the babys look idetical?
Still you paid for medical help and they need to honor your right to the information.
Mention an attorney and I bet you that the information will in your hands quickly.
Don't give up. You deserve this information. You might ask the doctor to do DNA tests and make him pay for it because you were not given the information whe the babys were born.

specific they could. A and B have comparable DNA, its only expressed in any different case, and the comparable is going for a and b. If A married a, then the genetic make up of the mothers and fathers may be the comparable as though A married b. The random decision of genes, as nicely as crossovers for the time of meiosis could resut in geneticallly distinctive offspring, yet for all intents and purposes the little ones could be genetic siblings, and criminal cousins. apparently, there is likewise an better possibility of comparable twins being produced via fact monozygotic (comparable) twins is carried interior the male line.
