Absolutely Athens is the capital and Sparta is still in the Peloponnese . They have both been cities of Greece for the past 5000 years at least.

Alive and kicking. Two of the best tourist spots in the world.
Fun, inexpensive(as opposed to other parts of Europe), nice climate, friendly, cosmopolitan, great night life, great food(middle eastern and Eastern European, and the occasional
Chinese, Japanese, East Asian etc), historical and archaeological paradise etc.
