I mean I realize it's like a woman's anthem, and I see people of allll nationalities sing it strongly with raised fists as they smile at one another seeing how they're connected while the song is playing, but.....I can't STAND that song! Am I the only one???

I am from South Africa ('n regte egte boereseun met lang hare en al!). Here was a band called 'Clout' (great all-girls band from the 70's), they have made a few great hits. One of that hits was the A-side for a single (I can't quite remember, my father told me, I think the song's name is 'Substitute'), the B-side was 'I will survive', Ironically the B-side of the single became the hit.
Now back to bussines. Just to demonstrate my strong feelings on this song. If someone wants to torture me, or I someone, or something cruel and bad like that, I will play to him: 'I will survive', if they are to play it at my funeral, I would rise up, smash the record to pieces and climb back into my coffin again.
I like the previous guy's list of music to be banned (I'm not sure what's his name, but he has a terrific picture of a owl)
A while ago, there was a computer clip, video or whatever, of a one-eyed alien that sang this song, halfway through the song a giant mirror ball falls on him. I couldn't stop laughing, I even listen to the song again, just for that moment.
I think you get the picture, I HATE THAT SONG.

I'm not crazy about the song but I don't hate it either. Makes you kind of wonder why it got so popular and lingers on forever though, huh? I mean I've heard better songs that never made it that big...and has Gloria Gaynor ever made another hit other than that? I don't even think so. The song is huge in the gay community, that and "It's Raining Men." LOL!

yes it's quite overplayed in the '70s and it's one of the songs played in the movie starring Keanu Reeves as a replacement football player
apted named "The Replacements"

yeah it's annoying!

Probably because you heard it soooooooooooo much. I don't hate the song, but you won't catch me listening to it. That was her one and only hit, and they stretch it out as much as they can. I remember some lady named Chante' Savage remade the song and turned it into an R&b song..hated it!

Lol! SOMEone finally said it.

As long as we're talking about "loved' songs, can we also toss out :

"YMCA"
"Unchained Melody"
"You've Lost The Loving Feeling"
"Brown eyed Girl"

It's merely been overplayed.

I know how you feel. I detest "Dust in the Wind" by KAnsas
