And liberals blame Bush, while it was Clinton that pared down the size of our military to unacceptable levels, who cut the defense budget to artificially erase the deficit. How do people think that the Clinton admin reduced the budget when all other areas of government spending were raised? He crippled our military, shut bases, halted recruiting, forced retirement, just to make it look like he miraculously balanced the budget. And for almost 7 years we have been trying to rebuild our military while simultaneously fighting a war against radical Islam and secular Middle Eastern despots. It is nearly impossible without a draft. So yes there are fewer guard here to help in these sort of crises

They have half of the men and mechanicals they would have had. Same thing happened in New Orleans. How is a simple head count liberal? What has a failed economic system got to do with anything at all?

Steele, we weren't at war, we weren't preparing for war, we were preparing to fight small brushfire type actions where necessary, not an all out, four year battle.
Maybe you are too young to remember that after Reagan no one was looking for another large foreign power to become bellicose. There wasn't any reason under Clinton to have a bloated armed forces. When Bush took office he saw what was availible and said screw it I'm going in anyway.
No draft, cut taxes, no planning, just run right in.

I dont know if you guys know this, its Kansas, not too many people there to begin with. They have more wheat than they have people. The only way they could have a "decent sized" National Gaurd is if they took Nebraska's National Gaurd.
