will be overheating. If it in hassle-free words lasts 3 minutes, it extremely a lot must be the CPU. have you ever opened the case? Is the little fan on the CPU nevertheless operating? even even if it really is, is the fan nevertheless firmly connected to the CPU itself? If the case is all dusty, get a can of compressed air and blow each and each and every of the airborne dirt and dirt bunnies out of there. be effective you blow air by the potential provide, too. opposite to the different respondents, it isn't going to be the potential provide or the motherboard. If both of those is undesirable, your computing device would not boot in any respect. i think the fan in the playstation would have failed, so look at that, yet an overheating playstation typically fails in a dramatic way, with sparks and smoke!

Could be spyware, if you're running windows xp, there is also a hotfix for computers that restart themselves, you may want to search the downloads at microsoft.com and install that, if not install some anti-spyware software (I recommend adaware se by lavasoft and it's free) and if you do not have any anti-virus software, you defiantly want to invest in some.
Also Microsoft has a free safety scan, you can try running that if it is a virus it should find it, do a search for one care safety scanner.

I am inclined to say it's the power supply. This is almost definitely the case if the computer does not "blue screen", but stops "hard". (You did not specify).
If it goes through the normal shut down sequence, it may be a virus or spyware type infestation. Do a virus sweep with your A/V program and try something like CCleaner.
