Click Start and then Run. Type "msconfig" without the quotes into the run box and click "OK". This will open the Windows configuration utility. In this window click "Startup. Uncheck the boxes for the software that you don't want to start up with windows. Be careful not to stop things like your virus of firewall software from starting. A little reading and thinking and all should be fine. Now click "Apply" and then "OK". You will now need to reboot your system. That should fix the problem.

If you don't wish to work in the msconfig utility, there is probably a switch within msm messenger that will allow you to choose weather the messenger starts with Windows or not.

Click on START - go to RUN

Type in msconfig

press enter key

when window opens go to the last tab START UP

Remove the tick in the boxes for things you don't want to start - BUT LEAVE VIRUS AND FIREWALL SOFTWARE ALONE.

Then restart PC

Start>Run>msconfig>'startup tab'
This should give you a clear indication of what runs at startup. Uncheck anything you don't want running.
