She's only about six weeks, but she's all the time hungry and she's already gained 12 pounds! What can she eat/do to stay full longer so she doesn't feel like she's starving to death? Thanks!

She should eat a small snack/meal every couple of hours. She should eat slower, it will help her fill up on less food. Also, she should have an 8oz glass BEFORE she eats. This too will help her fill up on less food. Tell her to drink more fluids, as our brains often mistake thirst for hunger (a big cause of obesity). If she drinks a big glass of water, or her 8oz glass of milk, and is still TRULY hungry, then go ahead and eat, slowly. Tell her to try and choose high fiber foods as often as possible, and to eat as healthily as possible too.

Eggs, I just saw a study on the news that if you eat eggs in the morning, you stay feeling more full longer. I have done it the past couple of days and usually I am starving by 10 after eating at 8 and now I don't get hungry until 12 or 1 sometimes even 2! I only eat 2 scrambled in the morning.

Eat smaller meals all through the day, not 3 big meals. 12 pounds is quite a bit of weight to have gained already at 6 weeks! The track she's on is going to be rough on her body later. I gained 48 lbs during my pregnancy and it was hard on me. My upper back ached so badly by the end that nothing would fix it except going to bed.

If she is skinny she needs to gain more weight for a healthy baby than someone bigger. If she is heating healthy foods she shouldn't worry about wieght gain. She could be eating a lot because she is eating fast foods and processed foods which have little nutrition.

She should make sure she eats plenty of raw vegetables (lettuce, spinach, carrots, celery), cooked vegetables (beets, yams, squash, bean sprouts, brussel sprouts), and grains (like buckwheat, barley, and quinoa), fruits (oranges, bananas, watermelon, strawberries...). A woman needs 1,000 calories a day just for breast feeding so gaining fat on the arms and upper legs in important. Water weight is unhealthy and can be eliminated by eating watermelon, squash, mung beans, adzuki beans, bean sprouts, cucumbers, corn, dandelion root, dandelion greens, and drinking nettle, red raspberry, roasted dandelion or chicory tea.

Sugar, caffeine, alcohol, and table salt should be completely avoided to stay healthy during pregnancy and not gain too much fat or water retention. Instead of cane sugar she should eat fruit, maple syrup, honey, rice syrup, etc.

If she's feeling hungry it means her body needs more nutrients so I suggest she just keep eating. It should be healthy food, lots of fruits & veggies, whole grains, etc. Of course she is going to gain weight, she is pregnant! If she tries to not gain weight that could be unhealthy for the baby.

Tell her to eat things that are high in fiber. Fiber is a naturally filling substance and will also help keep her regular throughout pregnancy. Foods that are naturally high in fiber include but are not limited to:strawberries, carrots, broccoli, bran muffins/cereal, sweet potatoes.....they are all filling and will help curb the eating. Also she has to remember to not just give herself and all excuse pass to just graze because she wants to. She wouldn't have done it when she wasn't pregnant because of how fat it would make her....tell her to remember that all the weight she gains she has to lose.....that's motivation to not overindulge.

What helps me is to drink a big glass of water before I let myself eat anything, sometimes two. It really helps me feel full faster. Also breakfast I eat a lot of oatmeal it seems to stick around longer.

Eat more often! Really, eat until you are full and then eat a snack. Just be careful check with your doctor. You don't want to gain to much weight!
