While looking for statistics about women in politics I found this web site that only endorses female cadidates. I had some concerns about them promoting only one aspect of feminism and only a female candidate. Do you believe that simply getting a woman in office will move us along enough that we can be pickier about our female candidate choices later? or Would you rather have a male candidate that more represented you as a voter? Women only for this one please as I am asking for women's opinions.

I would not support a women if I strongly disagreed with her positions, but I am more likely to support a woman over a man for any office which women have historically been excluded from and are under represented. Breaking down barriers advance the cause of equality for women, and it weighs on the plus side for a candidate when I consider how well they will represent me. For positions like school board where women are usually well represented gender would not effect my vote.

I agree with the website that women are under represented in US politics and I do think in general we would benefit (as a country) with more women holding political offices. However, if the only measure of the candidate is that they have ovaries then no this is not a realistic way to choose who your vote or financial contributions go to. I would never choose a political candidate because one group endorsed him/her. This website (and every other group) has a mission. When a group endorses a candidate this is just a starting point - take the information provided to you and do a little research. Find out what other groups support this candidate, which don't (and why), voting record, experience, issues, and history. Endorsements are not meant to be the determining factor, rather it is intended to influence your vote, much like debates, political advertisements, and even political cartoons. .

....it's a tough question. Ideally, government *should* represent the population as a whole. If the population is 30% minority, there should be approx 30% minorities in government. If the population is 50% women, there should be approx 50% women in government. But this isn't the case - far from it, and we need to question why exactly that is, and what we can do to change it. Apparently this organization believes that this is the way to do it.

With that said, I would rather vote for a male who represented my interests over a female who didn't. I'm very liberal, and I'd vote for a liberal man before a conservative woman. However, I am proud and supportive of any woman who enters politics.

After watching men bicker about a womans place in the home, society, the church ect. for eons, it would be wonderful to see a woman sitting in the highest seat of our government. I have a friend who has told me that if Hillary is elected we will see what he calls the "queen bee syndrome." Meaning she will surround herself with cablable, well qualified, MEN not women. Of course my friend is a conservative and does'nt believe that women should be involved in the politics of our country at all. I think the fact that she has made it this far enrages some men........and conservative women. A lady I know said, "A woman president, God help us." And i responded by saying, "Sister, if she does become president you need to pray for her just like you did for President Bush. It will be a tough job for whoever fills that seat. If she is elected i hope that her term in the presidency will be less scandelous, less secretative, and less prideful than the previous one.

it can hurt if you just blinding support someone because of something like their gender, race or whatever. Because even if these people are the same sex as you (or what ever the cause maybe) it doesn't really mean they think like you on the issues.

but at the same if it's more important for you to have a woman in office then caring about their goals then it makes since to back only women in hopes that you can get them to win.

No matter the gender, some candidates just aren't cut out for the position they want. If there was a female candidate who had a great platform and a consistent public persona (and was a Democrat), I would support her for the sake of finally having a woman president. Until then, I'm for Obama.

i want the person that will do their best to get what i want done - and what needs to be done - this election will be a waste i feel because i am worried black people will vote for the black man - woman will vote for the woman - and then the others will vote for the white man - and no one will be concerned about what those people stand for - just lets get a black president - no girl i want the female - and so on and so on but back to u i dont see anything wrong with endorseing female candidates because it is harder for females to get backing in politics - but to endorse all females because theyre females is wrong - just like voteing it should be based on qualifications - but it wont be -

I thought feminism was about equality.
I want a politician that represents me as a person, I don't care what they're packing downstairs.

EDIT: So to answer (!) - HURTS! If you pick a candidate on the basis of gender prejudice, you sell yourself short.

Makes about as much sense as men only voting for men. Or whites only voting for whites.
