slope formula

m = y₂- y₁/ x₂- x₁

Ordered Pairs

(- 4, 2)(5, 1)

m = 1- 2 / 5 - (- 4)

m = - 1 / 5 + 4

m = - 1 / 9

- - - - - - - - - --

Sloope intercept form

y = mx + b

2 = - 1/9(- 4) + b

2 = -(- 36 / 9 + b

2 = 36 / 9 + b

2 = 4 + b

2 - 4 = 4 + b - 4

- 2 = b

The equation

y = - 1/9x - 2

m is the slope of the line. The slope is defined as the change in y divided by the change in x. So,

Change in y = 1-2 = -1
Change in x = 5-(-4) = 5+4 = 9

So m= -1/9

m is the slope

(1 - 2) / (5 +4) = -1/9 = m

then plug in an x and y variable

2 = (-1/9) (-4) +b .... solve for b

well.......i can do this with another method......
m= y-y1/x-x1
= 1-2/5-(-4)
= -1/9

after putting value of m..........solve for b,
b=-2

m=slope = change y/change x
(y1-y2)/(x1-x2)=
(2-1)/(-4-5)=
1/-9=-1/9=m
