(NJ Case)If I am a non custodial parent - paying child support on regular basis. We both agreed that I can have my daughter for the summer and I do not have to pay child support for those 2 months. However - my question is on the summer camp tuition - Are we both required to pay half - or is it up to me to pay the whole thing?

What does your support agreement say about summer camp? If it is not written in the actual agreement, have you and your ex made an informal agreement about that?

Those kinds of issues should have been settled in family court during the custodial hearing. The norm is 50/50. However, I have read of cases where sending a child to summer camp or something that is for entertainment does not have to be paid for by a parent who does not agree to that expense and not agreed upon during the custodial process.

If this issue is not addressed in your court order then you should discuss with the mother of the child. More than likely since you are not paying the child support for the months in question you should pay the full amount will probably be what the mother thinks.

You are both required to pay half ONLY if it iss identified in your court order as having to be shared by both parents.

If not, the parent who enrolls the child in summer camp is usually responsible for the costs.

As a general rule, extracurricular activities are the responsibility of the parent who enrolls the minor child.

Hope this helps.

If the child support is court ordered, then it must be paid monthly regardless of where the children go for the summer. Summer camp, clothes, gifts, trips that dad pays for are all in addition to child support unless your support agreement states otherwise.

I don't understand why you want to send her to summer camp in the first place when you can be spending time with her over the summer. As far as the money goes, sounds like it is your job to pay for all her needs while she is with you.Why don't you use your money to do something together instead of dishing out all that money for summer camp.

It's up to you to pay it all. It is not a necessity.
