As far as I understand it, there aren't any physical dangers to the fetus. However, the reason it is often discouraged is because the people performing the ultrasound often are not certified, and therefore could interpret the results wrong, or miss a potential health issue. I would think that if you've had your regular 20-week ultrasound and everything looked fine, then it would be completely fine to get a 3d ultrasound.

Not at all. 3D ultrasounds are made by taking many layers of normal ultrasounds and piecing them together to make a 3D image. Ultrasounds use sound waves to create the profile of the baby, so it's as harmless as talking to your belly!

As long as your doc is ok with it.
There isnt much documentation on dangers of ultrasounds but should be used in moderation. I know a long session can cause heat for the baby, but other than that I dont know.
Just get Ok'd by your doc.

When I took prenatal classes the instructor told us that ultrasound has been proven to cause deafness in animals. It has not been proven safe for humans. I never had any ultrasound or electronic monitor with my pregnancies.

I don't think so. As long as you are having a trained doctor or nurse doing the ultrasound, you and baby should be fine.

This is a good article.
I only had the ultrasounds recommended to me by my doctor IN the doctor's office.
I can wait 10 months to see him, even if I'm dying to!

yes do not do it unless its medically necessary. 3d and 4d are equivalent to 50 ultrasounds at least its alot of frequency and you donot want to risk it for your healthy child
