I'm a senior in high school on my way to college in the fall and searching for a new computer. I was very interested in a particular Gateway I saw at Circuit City but then everyone I mention this to freaks out discouraging me to do so because "it's cheap". Can I get some support from the many dissenters out there please so that I can make a good decision?

I agree with MUffin. Gateways, Dells, EMachine and the like are built from a bunch of the most inexpensive parts available. I have customers that own these types of machines and have had no problems at all and others that have had nothing but problems. It's kind of a coin toss.

As for support, that's always a problem with computer companies who outsource their support sites to other countries.

The #1 reason not to buy Gateway is Lack of Support!!!
This is their biggest problem...and any support they do offer is by someone in India thats hard to understand...LOL
#2. reason is Hardware....
Why do I say this? I OWN a Gateway computer!!!
In the last 5 years it has had 5 harddrives, Powersupply, Motherboard, and DVD drive go bad...(The only parts that's remained GOOD is my Pentium Processor & the CD drive)
So, do you still want to get a Gateway computer???? LOL
