I have steel doors, and have taped stuff to it, but am not able to get the sticky stuff off, it collects dirt, and looks dirty. I have tried Mr. Clean magic sponge, Goo Gone, Goof Off, and many multi purpose cleaners, so far nothing. I did learn to use magnets to hang things up:)

Sometimes saturating it with oil will do the trick. Then use a razor blade and scrape it off.

Hi. Yes, I work with sticky stuff all the time...there is a product called "Goo Gone" that will remove all kinds of really stuck on stuff, expecially tape. You can buy it at any place that sells art and craft supplies, even grocery stored carry it. It can be found in many places. I've also heard that lighter fluid will remove almost anything, but it is very flammable and probably not a good idea to leave this sitting around in a dorm.

Vegetable oil does the trick...i had my car broken into and had to tape the lovely garbage bag to the door and had the gross tape stuff on there...i used veggie oil and it worked well...also you can try finger polish remover IF the steel isnt painted or has a gloss coat on it...the remover will strip everything from that!

Try using a hair dryer to heat up the old tape. You can also try cutting a lemon in half and using the juice to loosen up the sticky residue

I have had good success with softscrub and a product called spray9 also. (not at the same time though) Be careful with these products as that can harm painted surfaces. Try it on an inconspicuous are before you try it on an area in plain sight.

try a heat gun. some times a hairdryer will work but yours sounds a little stubborn. a heat gun at home depot runs about 20 to 30 dollars. purpose is to turn the glue back to glue and wipe off. then wax.
