Dear Dummy:
Firstly, I am no liberal, as only a moron would belong to either of the most CORRUPT POLITICAL PARTIES (Democrap or Repukelican).
Only 3 out of the 6 were illegals. If the others are Naturalized, then Gitmo will only get those 3. Natuarlized, or American citizens can't be sent out of the country for torture...I know, just when you were picking out the wood for the waterboarding.... I go and burst your bubble.
If you go to smokinggun website, you can read the affidavits that resulted in the wiretaps. If only the rest of the USG could take the time to spell out, in common sense, WITHOUT GIVING AWAY SECRETS, the same methodology, then I WOULD HAVE NO PROBLEM with wiretaps.
REAL CONSERVATIVES do not want their government keeping track of their phone calls, money or emails, WITHOUT PROBABLE CAUSE.
The affidavits provided probable cause, which is how the process WORKED WAY BEFORE 9/11. Sadly, this is an exception to the Norm, as evidence by INvestigations into the FBI, CIA and other geniuses.

I hope a lot of people read my answer, and the more thumbs down I get, the happier I'll be because I'll know I struck a Lib nerve.
I am sick of people using what I call the "Sci Fi Scenario" as an excuse to prevent our government from taking reasonable measures to ensure our safety. Bill O'Reilly has stated on his program many times that, if ANYONE has been unjustly hurt by The Patriot Act, he would broadcast it. Guess what? Years later, still no one has come forward.
"The Sci Fi Scenario" is a term I've coined when people take something to its absurd extreme, much like the plots of the dismal futures in some sci fi movies, where society has gone terribly wrong: massive over-population, a plague that kills 99% of the population, or a nazi-like uber-government that controls every aspect of society. Well, The Patiot Act is tame compared to the steps taken in previous wars. No innocent person has been injured, and the benefit has been enormous. Besides the foiling of this plot to kill thousands of soldiers at Fort Dix, it has also saved the largest skyscraper on the West Coast, and many other targets.
I am so sick of people quoting Benjamin Franklin. He was an incredibly intelligent man, and were he alive today, he would approve of the steps the government is taking to ensure our land stays free of attack. He would approve since it does not violate the Constitution, nor infringe on our personal liberties. Even if some temporary measures were ever required, remember the words of one Supreme Court Justice, "The Constitution is not a suicide pact".

The article you link to has nothing to do with wire taps. The recordings are of in-person conversations with an FBI informant. There's nothing wrong with that and no liberal ever said there was.

I have nothing against wiretaps, I just don't want wiretaps done without judicial oversight. That's my objection to the Patriot act, that it allows federal law enforcement to do wiretaps without a judge's approval. There's no reason why they couldn't continue to rely on the FISA judges to conduct their necessary intel work.
Perhaps you think that's details but to me it means the difference between quality law enforcement with checks and balances and a system that is rife with abuse.

No "Lib" ever, ever said terrorist suspects couldn't be subjected to wire taps, fool. Legislation was already in place for that.
What true Americans, you know, the ones who recognize the Constitution as being more important than your Fuhrer? -- object to is SPYING WITH NO JUDICIAL OVERSIGHT.
Gee willikers, are all of you retarded?

I don't mind the gov't listening to my conversation, I have nothing to lose and if out of 10,000 unimportant calls they pick up on one that saves even just one life? To me, it's worth it. My concern is when they begin to start monitoring converstions that dont involve bank heists, murdering or acts of terrorism. Who knows what laws will change in the future and if it inflicts with our freedom of speech, then I'm concerned.

They are abusing their power. I'm happy they caught those guys, but it doesn't change the fact that they're doing things outside of the realm of the Patriot Act even.
hmm...how does this phrase sound to you cons? "Illegal is illegal!"

what i wanna know is, why they think its not OK to invade privacy by listening to petty lame phone calls, but when you get on public assistance the government knows EVERYTHING there is to know about you, Id call that an invasion.
