Drs. Foster and Smith is one the largest online seller of fish stuff. I've used them many times, they have most everything.

A fluidised sand filter is exactly what it sounds like. It is a closed container in which a water pump pumps your tank water through it. It has extremely fine sand inside of it. As the tank water is pumped inside, it churns up the sand, but the sand is heavy enough to stay near the bottome of the filter tube; the water exits the top of the tube back into the tank. The point is that with the very fine sand, there is lots of surface area to colonize beneficial bacteria your tank needs to keep ammonia and nitrite in check. And since the water passes "through" the sand bed, it comes in direct contact with the good bacteria.

I have sand in a fifty 5 gal planted tank. I used Playground sand my fish are tremendous and healthful my blue acaras actually have spawned some circumstances. Sand isn't risky to fish. If that were real then each and each and every of the fish in rivers and oceans should be useless. Come on imagine about it. Sand is amazingly organic and maximum fish come from places were sand is the substrates they are use to. the in hassle-free words situation with the potential filters those that hand on the tank is that the sand ought to shrink to rubble the propellor. it received't clog it. do merely no longer run the clear out till your sand has all settled. haven't got your intake hose so low it really is sucks the sand 2 inches above the sand is tremendous. you are able to purchase aquarium sand OR pool clear out sand and play floor sand are all chance-free. definite the poop does sit down on the best and makes the tank look messy more effective swifter. in spite of the indisputable fact that it really is likewise uncomplicated to sparkling because the poop is continually acceptable on good waiting to be sucked up. i recognize my sand and recommend it my fish like it too. I have cichlids they prefer to dig. see you later as you're good about doing water variations with the Vacuum your tank will be tremendous.

I've personally never come across one of these. From my brief research I've gathered they have more popularity in the UK than in the states. However, visit a local fish store they often have access to products they don't carrry (because they're not popular - why order them and have them waste away on the shelf).

If you can't find you could probably make your own. And if you don't want to do all that I recommend a CPR Bak-Pak (up to 60 gallons) or a Double Bak-Pak (up to I believe 120 gallons). Bak-Paks are both filter and protein skimmer. If your tank is larger or you want extra filtration Magnums are very good and reasonably priced canister filters.
