Radiator issues? Warning light on? Pass emissions? Goes fast, stops, turns correctly, goes straight?
Everything passes? Buy it, anything fails...don't!

I have a 1986 528e, a little larger than the 3 series but great cars! It just hit 170k and has original engine, tranny, even the speakers work perfect. The body is solid, well put together and will withstand a lot more impact in a crash due to steel body and riging frame. You can find parts and parts cars for cheap all over.
The 3 serires of those years are alos great for doing Euro conversions on the front bumpers and headlights, put a body kit on it and you've got a sweet ride.

Its not a show stopper. your asking us the question. why are you asking? because you know your asking us about a 1984 car. its not a fast car at all. its old and will have electronics that will fail. rust ect. $500? double your money and get a 10 year old civic. cheep trust worthy no electronics to fail.

I'd say save your money and buy a better car. This is just a money pit and the 318 is about the worst car BMW ever made.

Sorry to rain on your parade but you'll thank me someday (geez, I sound like your parents....)

23 years old...

almost 180,000 miles

expensive parts.

expensive service.

Maybe expensive insurance if you want anything more than liability coverage.

For $500, I'd say get it if you want, drive it until it dies, but anything that costs more than an oil change would make me consider whether it's worth the cost.
