try the great war forum

it's free to register and very good for genealogical research. I'm sure the experts there will be able to help you narrow it down from the picture.
Also if he unfortunately did not survive you can use the free commonwealth war graves commission search: http://www.cwgc.org - if you pinpoint your great grandfather it gives you the regiment, date of death, where he is buried and often some family details.
If he had a fairly unusual name or a middle name it can be worth checking the medal cards available on the national archives site here: http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/documentsonline/browse-refine.asp?CatID=10&searchType=browserefine&pagenumber=1&query=*&queryType=1
I say unusual because otherwise you get a whole list of people and they don't give you any information on them other than the service, which is what you're looking for, and it costs £.3.50 to look at a record.

You're English is just fine.
The image you have provided is out of focus (and may possibly be reversed as well) so it's hard to tell exactly what it is. I Googled "British Cap Badges" and found a number of links. The one below seems to be the most extensive in its collection.
It really helps to know what part of Britain your relative is from and what branch in the military he served in. It would help even more if you were able to determine what his specific duty was or what regiment he served in. Knowing all or part of that information will narrow down your search greatly.
Now I'm curious to know what badge that is.

The German uniform became into many times a grey/woodland green shade. The British wore an olive green or khaki brown colored uniform, even with the incontrovertible fact that that could rely on no rely if it became into from the British isles or from a British Imperial possession. And to end the factions on the Western front, i'm going to additionally provide you the French uniforms, which will nicely be thrilling. In 1914, the vast majority of the French military nevertheless wore a depressing blue jacket with incredible pink pants. This made them very conspicuous aims and very nearly fee them the warfare in 1914, yet after triumphing the conflict of the Marne, the French have been waiting to stay to tell the tale and commenced to swap to a uniform that attempted to "combination in". by ability of 1915, the French many times wore a grayish blue uniform.

Hi!
When I first saw your picture, despite the blurring, I immediately wondered if the badge could belong to The East Kent Regiment (Known as The Buffs). I know it's a wild guess, but to me it looks like the Buffs Dragon cap badge as shown here :- http://www.militarybadges.org.uk/badges/badgestart.htm
http://www.roll-of-honour.com/Regiments/CapBadges.html#E
You can also find some good images of the badges (reproduction) if you search on eBay.
The Buffs have a long history and have their Regimental Museum in Canterbury, Kent
http://www.canterbury.gov.uk/cgi-bin/buildpage.pl?mysql=601
There is more information about them here:-
http://www.regiments.org/regiments/uk/inf/003Buffs.htm
And even a complete list of all Officers and Men who died in WWI, here:-
http://www.users.globalnet.co.uk/%7Edrnew/buffs1.htm
As I said, this is just my best guess, but it might help.
Good luck with your research. I would love to know what you find out.

Your image is, as others have said, very blurred.
It might be a 'Queens Royal West Surrey Regiment' badge - can't be sure though.
And your English is a hell of a lot better than my French!

The picture is unclear.
Try the British Legion as the members are old soldiers and may have a better idea what it is.
bon chance.
