I don't understand what your issue is, there is no educational requirement to be on Yahoo answers, and the best that anyone can offer you here, is an opinion based on thier own knowledge or experience of the subject, but an opinion is all it is. Even when someone does have alot of education, an opinion based on thier knowledge or experience is *still* the only thing they can offer you. If you go to a doctor, what he will say to you is *still* only an opinion based on his knowledge of you, and of the subject, and two doctors can disagree in thier opinions what the problem is. Being able to get a good education is not evidence that someone is competent in a subject out side of thier experience, a measure of intelligence, or an indication that the person with the education has the wisdom to apply his book knowledge well.
For my own part, I'll take "common sense" over "education" any day of the week.

Sorry I'm one of those thicko Londoners, well according to you, as for my education well I've attained qualifications in various subjects, but made my money using the most cheapest form of education, and that's common sense. I've run a very successful business for 30 yrs and am now semi retired, but still have the desire to take on a challenge. So what have you achieved ?

I am, only to post grad though. I stumbled on this site when I tried to fix my ipod and found people to be very helpful. I wanted to see if i could help anyone in return and noticed a number of people exhibiting nihilistic tendencies and thought i may be able to offer something. I have subsequently found myself exhibiting nihilistic tendencies.

Also, just had an ankle op and cant drive for a few weeks, so occasionally use this as a break from work.

It's not just "on here" my friend, and not just the internet generally either, it has become widespread. I personally have been applying for loads of jobs for example, and am experiencing discrimination precisely because I AM educated!

Nearly every job advert that you read on the internet contains literary or grammatical or spelling errors. As indeed do many in the press. I applied for one recently with the RSPCA and even they inserted a malapropism! ("As we are a charity, we respectively ask that you enclose a SAE . . .").

For my own further insight into the problem, see my answer to the question "Why are there so many educated illiterates?" (Chosen as best answer by the questioner).

But by definition in a culturally declining society, education is always one of the earliest casualties. It is seen as having no value. (Other than to the bureaucrats whose livelihoods depend on reproducing the conditions of existence of the education industry - a major part of the problem in fact, and reason for it's qualitative decline).

(Actually, I think that "pacifally" means 'specifically'. Not: 'particularly').

What makes it all so strange is that in a world of computers, absolute accuracy is sacrosanct. While, in linguistics & communication - ???? (One rule for the teckys another for us, regular folk!) And if you're not including communication skills in your wider definition of 'education', no matter how well trained you may be in your own little field, THEN YOU AIN'T EDUCATED. Because 'education' implies a certain 'raft', or minimum standard of communication with everyone else: "respect" as we say now.

(Which is to make the distinction that some answers have missed, here, between 'educated' and 'qualified').

"Education" is simply: communication: par excellence!

I like to think I am and my own mother used to call me an "Overly educated IDIOT"... but that may have just been sour grapes at the though of all that money my parents poured down the drain so I could get a proper European Education post High School.

I find it hard to accept you have had any sort of education, because I've never heard of one of the words you've used in your question. I attended High School by the way. The world is full of others who have the mistaken idea that they are better. Sooner or later they slip up, just as you have done.
