Thats something unusual..anyway try to clean ur harddisk by deleting junk files

start>programs>accessories>System tools>disk cleanup

after that, try compress your hard disk..you will recover a quite number if harddisk space

Best guess, the storage usage was actually 8.40 before defragmentation. It took a defrag to report the correct storage.

Defragging reorganizes the data on the disk. Say you're taking notes for a class, and you write on whatever you have handy. Note paper, note cards, the back of a check, a shopping list, all over the place. That's what your disk drive looks like after awhile. Fragments of files get put here, there, and everywhere. Each one has a pointer embedded in it that says the next fragment is located at these coordinates.

Defragging copies most or all of these fragments of files to one file, and frees up the space that was tied up by all these little scraps of data. It's like you copied all those notes into one file, nice and neat and easy to study.

my be you wrong.may be you install a program or may be in run of defragmentation a interrupt has occurred . i use another program to defragmentation.it is best program and Microsoft verification it. it is raxco perfectdisk.u can download it from http://www.raxco.com/
it is best program for defragmenting and after defragmentation the speed of the system very increase.
and i recommend to use it.
