On what or on whom? The question is pretty vague.

Without any other information, I would say that the effect of the government is to uphold the constitution of the United States...

Same as the effect of all governments - screwing up the economy and curtailing citizen's rights (maybe a little more of the former and less of the latter than some other governments) - why?

To take credit for everything good that happens in this country while completely ignoring the fact that the government has historically been one of the first obstacles to progressive change.

if you were supper rich kasillionare owner of World TV Broad cast networks.....etc ... and anyone put an obstacle to you to take over oil, refineries, mines .etc ..... what would you??
if you own CNN, NBC, etc....

just take a look of declassified CIA documents
do you think the government and tycoons of the world wouldn’t be doing the same things now??
