My mother use to do dancing mothballs every Christmas. Part of the recipe is vinegar, mothballs and food coloring, but I can't remember what she sprinkled that made them "dance" up and down in the jar?

2 qts. water
few drops red or green food coloring
2/3 c. white vinegar
1 T. baking soda
1 box mothballs (you must use Naphtolene type. Other mothballs will not work).

Place in a large glass bowl (like a fish bowl) and enjoy! It takes about 30 minutes for the action to start. (Add more vinegar and soda when the mothballs stop dancing).
