You can buy a kit over the internet. You have to be 6 weeks. It's a blood test; the article explains.
The best bet is to wait till the 18-20 week ultrasound. That was conclusive for my daughter and currently my son. If the tech has the patience to wait for the baby to move to a good position for viewing gender, then it is very clear by 18 weeks.
Many people I know swear by the shape of the belly for guessing gender. I personally wouldn't go by old wives tales unless it's just fun to pass the time. All the other ones like morning sickness, cravings, heartrate, swinging a locket over the belly, etc don't hold any water! Those folks have a 50% chance of being right and some really believe in their "method".
Chinese birth chart was wrong for both of mine!

Without an amniocentesis, which is really risky and almost never done until the middle of the second trimester, you can't. While the babies genetic material is male or female, external differentiation of the genitalia will not occur until around 12 weeks and is too small and undeveloped to be seen on an ultrasound until after 15-20 weeks. Swollen labia (which all baby girls have) look a lot like testicles and the clitoris is usually oversized at first looking a lot like a penis so you really can't tell until nearer the 20th week. Even then, you may not find out. My sister has 15 different ultrasound pictures of her daughter's spine and not one shot of the genitals, we didn't know until she was born. All three of my boys and both of my nephews were rather proud of the family jewels and we knew very early that they were boys. There are lots of fun wives tales to try, the Chinese Gender Predictor has never been wrong for me but that doesn't mean much. Have fun guessing. If you are worried about shopping etc, stick to the staples that are gender neutral for now (white, yellow, or green onesies and sleepers, socks, Winnie the Pooh swing, fish bouncy seat, plaid car seat etc).

I paid for a 3rd party US to determine the sex at 17 weeks. You find them on the phone book. IT was a lot of fun and worth the $75. They did say that the earliest they could tell would be 15 weeks but that you are better off waiting until 17 to get a better shot.
All my symptoms said boy and it was a girl so you can't believe the old wives tales.

You don't. Sex organs aren't developed enough yet to tell on ultrasound and the only other way is to have a amnioscentisis and they don't do those in the 1st trimester.

You wont be able to tell this early bc you are not scheduled for a US until like the 2nd trimester. BUT some drs will give you and amnio and the fluid around the baby is full of dead skin cells that fall off the baby and that will tell you.. So ask or wait!!! Congrats!!!!

In the first trimester girls and boys have the same boy parts. But its the way it is pointing that tells you if its either a girl or a boy. If I do remember so correctly I was told in my 12th wk by a specialist the sex of my baby. It was pointing up and sure enough it was a girl.. Good luck.

Here's a way that claims about 90% accuracy. The Chinese birth calendar. It was right for my first child and was right for my buddies second. You have to know the month your child was conceived. Take it for what it's worth.

Some people say you can tell the sex by the "way your are carrying the baby" and/or by frequency of sickness. If you are not gaining weight fast and are not sick very often most will say a boy. If you are already getting, well.. wide, and have a lot of sickness/mood swings they say girl. Mainly because producing a girl requies a lot of additional homores to be produced making a majority of women wider, more emotional and nausious.

you don't know. You can go by gut feeling but that can even be wrong. You have to wait till around 18 or 20 weeks
