We live in a rurual area and are a private estate. We have gone to the city for water. They told us we can put the water line in at our exspence and they will take over the line up to water meters. The cost so far is 25 thousand for each home owner of 18.

You have little choice but to continue on with your private well systems. The choice of whether or not to install municipal water lies with your municipality. You may, of course, make your wishes/needs known to your elected representatives, but that is no guarantee that desired action will result. You do not state the reason(s) for which you think you need city water supplies. If there are health issues involved with your wells, I would recommend contacting your state's department of health. Some states offer financial assistance to those whose private well systems do not offer clean and healthy water supplies.

Most cities or private companies will bring the water to you because eventually they will be in that area soon any way.

You should contact the city or municipality or private corporation that has the water you are attempting to get. If you have a city councilman or county official get them involved. See what the requirements are for what you want to do.

Get the local citizen in your area involved with partitions, attend the city and county meetings to let them know that you want to have city water.

Now you might be assessed a water assessment tax if the water is approved for your area. This tax will probably appear on your local county tax bill you receive each 6 months or whenever you get your tax bill from the county or city.

Go to the local government (whether city or unincorporated county) and have a signed petition by all the neighbors that you need city water and why. If you are denied, get the media involved. The government has funds allocated for such projects but they like to spend that money on other things if they can get away with it. Ask for their environmental budget for 2007. IT IS PUBLIC RECORD!

You might want to repost your question, more detail is needed to better answer your question, theres factors that need to be considered , such as ;

Your location
are you within the city limits etc........

But for the most part it would be wise to contact the county and ask questions. Good Luck and God bless!

Engage your city planner and see what needs to be done. No one on this board is going to be able to help you.

Best of luck!
