There was no first in mythology..Many cultures have similar beliefs, but their are many who do not. And with the older cultures, it is almost impossible to get an exact date on when certain beliefs came into being.
As for Zeus being the first, it's not correct. He was born of Cronus and Rhea, so he is obviously not the first. What he is, is the ruler of all the God's that have been associated with Roman or greek mythology. So, while Zeus may be the most important, he was not the first.

Well Dyeus in European mythology is most always the leader. In Latin mythology, Dyeus' name became Jupiter. In Greece it became Zeus (see dyeus, zeus). And in Norse it was Tyr (even though he got bumped from being the head of his pantheon.)

Myths have been part of humankind's oral and written tradition since there was the ability to communicate. There is no first because there were many firsts and many mythic tales told around campfires where the moans of lions and the trumpets of mastodons could be heard in the background..

If you mean Western mythology, then it's Zeus, which equates linguistically to Latin "deus".
