I recently upgraded my laptop to vista and now I want to go back to xp.

I forgot to create a restore point before I did this and I also cant find my xp disc either.

I was wondering if I can download the windows operating system from anywhere or even copy it from my wifes laptop onto mine?

Is any of this possible?

possibilities are endless

but if you ask me frankly, the easiest and cheapest option would be to contact manufacturer & order fresh 'restore disks', quoting service tag or other details as may be needed by laptop manufacturer, to give you the exact disk > originally supplied os: meaning win xp alongwith cd key & other device drivers & default software !

should cost approx $ 25

best of luck

To downgrade from Vista to XP you will need to:
1. Format your hard drive.
2. Install XP from an original XP disk.
3. Or use the "Restore" disk that came with your laptop.

You can not copy XP form your wife's computer.

What is wrong with the Vista install that you are using? I have been using Vista for about 3 months and have found no porblems with it yet. It is fast and stable. I realize that there is software that, as of yet, doesn't work with Vista, but this has been the case with all new operating systems. XP killed way more software and hardware then Vista. "How soon we forget". But most of these problems will be fixed in time.

You can contact the company that built your laptop for a new Restore disk, but there will be some cost involved.

One word of advice. If you are using Vista Home Pro, it is a good idea to go into the desktop properties and turn of Areo because it is a power hungry application and tends to greatly shorten battery life.

You can install a fresh copy using XP Home with service pack two just so long as it is an OEM version. This way you can use your origional CD Key. You may have to phone Microsoft, to activate it, but that usually isn't a problem.

I think the only way was to create a restore point but you can ask for a new set of disc if you got your computer from a company like dell.

ohhh man you lost the discs...

if you still have the XP serial, you should be able to get a cd from someone else and use the same serial..

or format your computer completely...but if your computer did not come with XP, it will go back to something else..

add more details including what brand you have and which version of vista you have...

that suxxx

legally..no. you will have to get a new copy of xp. Microsoft is checking all instances of win xp and will gimp it if it isn't a genuine copy.
