cats seem to work the best inside or outside, i do not like using any kind of poison.
mouse traps or sticky traps is another way to go.

you can use those plastic stickey trays but they are kind of gross, but they are affective. You stick them in places like behind the stove or refrigerator and they get stuck on there and cant get away. If you do not have kids or pets you can use whats called Bar bait. They eat it and it kills them but u may find them later, dead and smelly but most of the time they will dry up. dont use them if you have pets or kids, they will eat it and it will kill pets and injury a baby.

Use mice poison. You can get quite a few with one box.

You can do what my Mom did with the squirrels once -- simple recipe : peanut butter and Decon. I'm not sure what the decon is but ask around. As far as my Mom -- no more squirrels.

A pellet rifle is effective and fun.
Otherwise try simple mouse traps.
