I'd find some kid on the block to do it for 10 bucks and a lemonade.

I would attempt to mow only after the ground is not soggy and there is no danger of slipping and sliding around the ground as you mow. Practice safety first. and remember that the grass will continue to grow. If you have mulch blade you may not have to pick up the cuttings, they are good for the grass but do have the setting set high so that you dont have to fight with the height and killing the mower. GO SLOW!!!

Mow it in stages. Set your mower the highest it would go then mow and lower on setting at a time to get to the desired length. If you try and mow all at once, your mower will get clogged, the grass will not cut well and you will get lots of clumps of grass left behind.
Sounds like hard work coming your way. If it was me, I would hire someone to do this mowing

I would certainly let it get a bit dry, get on my old beat up rider with a cold beer, and a fresh tank of gas,, set he deck as high as possible, and go for it,, then, reset deck as wished for. I mow about a half acre lawn, and have the very same thing, right now,, very tall grass,,and too wet to mow. Remember wet grass is very hard on any mower, and as the others said, will make big gobs of grass, and build up, on your deck. Proper ammounts of ice cold beer always makes yardwork a better deal to contend with!

I for one like grass 8" tall. That is so cool. Why do you want to mow it anyway? It's not like it's joining the armed services or something that required a haircut. Wet grass on lawnmower blades is gross and may clog up the system.

I've got an ancient Briggs & Stratton powered mower (so old I fogot who made it).
When this happened to me I just pushed down on the handle to tilt the deck up a bit (like popping a wheelie) and proceeded slowly. Worked like a charm.
I tried raising the deck, but it stalled out. Certainly this approach is not recommended by the manufacturer.

I've done worse. Wait for the rain to dry, go slowly, bag the grass, and empty it often.
