You didn't say who the manufacturer of your computer is, so.....here goes
If it's a Compaq, Dell, HP, etc....... support and drivers are on that manufacturers website.
If someone built it for you, you should have received the manual and a support cd for your motherboard. If you didn't, there is usually a model number silkscreened on the motherboard either between the pci slots or next to the processor. It will say something like A8N-E. You would then search for that and find out who the manufacturer is and go to their website for latest driver downloads.

Try to locate some series of number or model, by looking at one of a chipset sat on your mobo or sound card. If manufacturer/brand is not available.
ex. if found a cmi8330 on a chipset, type "cmi8330 driver" using your favorite search engine. You can also include a OS type to your search, let's say for XP nor for 98se and even linux etc. ex. "cmi8330 xp driver","cmi8330 98se driver" etc.

For the motherboard manufacture you can use the software called CPU-Z, it's a free software and for the sound card, you need to refers to your MB manual and check what is the sound card model.

if you are running XP you can do to device manager and then right click on your sound device then select properties then driver tab then update driver to update ... if it was working before and you did something you can also select roll back driver..
you can download everest home edition.. this SW will give you everything you need to know about your PC HW.. Just to google for this
