He has good ideas, but he isn't the sharpest tool in the shed.

He is not a curious person at all, and those reading lists they put out of his are a joke.

He said once that he went on a church retreat where they studied the book of Acts for a month, but when a reporter asked him what his favorite part was, he was like, "is that some kinda trick question?"

He doesn't know much about other countries, foreign affairs, or care what other people think as memoir after memoir of his former cabinet people verify.

On the other hand, he does know a few things about business. He sent a letter to whoever was managing the Yale endowment and explained some Enron-like tricks they could do to expand their investments.

Part of what Bush does is an act to win the votes of the very stupid and hide the fact that he comes from old, old money going back at least 150 years.

Stupid people look at Bush and think "he's stupid just like me. I could be president." Conversely, if they admit Bush is too stupid to be president, they would be admitting their own inadequacy too.

That stupid act is what made him tough to beat in 2000 & 2004. Kerry and Gore could bone up on all the facts they wanted and have all the right answers, but they couldn't out stupid him.

Probably the only candidate who could have beat him was Jim Varney or the banjo playing inbred in DELIVERANCE

I think he's probably a lot smarter than people give him credit for.

When Bush ran against Kent Hance in 1978 for the House of Representatives, Hance portrayed Bush as "ivy league" and "out of touch" with Texans. Bush, of course, lost that election. Afterward, he was quoted as saying that he'll never be "outdumbed" in another election again.

I always think about that when people underestimate Bush. Yeah, okay, he's not a great speaker. Neither is his father, to be honest. He's a great communicator in small groups, especially one-on-one. He's personable. When he's reading a speech somebody else wrote for him, he really sucks. But I don't think he's dumb. Public speaking isn't a good indication at all of intelligence. It's an important trait to have when you're a leader, but not a determining factor of smarty-pantsness.

So, I think he's shrewd, I think he's pretty bright, but I wouldn't call him an "intellectual." That's kind of a lofty academic designation that wouldn't be suitable for Bush or most politicians. But he's definitely not dumb.

I've said this for 6 years. I don't believe he's dumb, I just think he's in over his head. Not everyone is cut out to be president.

Neither.

He is not stupid. And we have never worshipped intellectuals in this country. He's intelligent. And there's a difference.

Bush is so dumb (as our president) -- I once asked me what came between "x" and "z" and I said "Y" -- and he said "because I just need to know..."

He is really not either. He is not dumb. He went to Yale and graduated. He has a Harvard MBA. So he is definately not dumb. He may not be the intellectual type either, but who is? Hillary or Obama-I don't think so.

He's obviously smart enough to pick all the people around him to do his thinking for him.

I love some of these responses... Bush is smart because he was *elected*? That only proves we have even dumber people at the polls.
