Why is voter turnout so low in America? What is the percentage anyway, less than 50%? Do we know our candidates are more or less the same, enough that it makes no difference who we vote for? Am I losing faith in Democracy? I'm sure more people on a political forum like this vote than compared to the general population.

We need to get up off our collective a*sses and stop taking our responsiblity to keep an eye on our government for granted. We need to realize again that this is about " we, the people" not "them, the corporations". Unless we start to shake off the apathy and go out and vote overwhelmingly, the corporations such as Diebold can rig out elections, corporations can still try to buy our representatives.

Voting is denigrated in public schools, which leads to apathy in young adults.

I was talking to my brother the other day (he is 18) and he hasn't even registered! I asked him why and he said that his Social Studies teacher told the class that voting is useless because your vote doesn't really count.

I haven't had a shock like that in a while. This "teacher" is indoctrinating the students with anti-Democratic (not to be confused with the political party the "teacher" is undoubtedly a member of) rhetoric.

If we want to increase voter turnout, we need to get rid of the communist propagandists who are "teaching" the American youth that they can't make a difference.

People just don't seem to care anymore. Many are just too lazy. Some probably feel that it really doesn't matter who they vote for. It's pretty bad when you read that more people vote for American Idol than for our elected officials.
