It's so hard to get decent (intellegent, reliable, hard working) staff these days I'll be very supprised if Companies allow discrimination on grounds such as age etc.
To be honest, when I was asked to recruit for a Department Secretary, after interviewing a few 'Degree Standard' candidates in their 20's I started to realise what everyone meant by the 'dumbing down' of the Education system and focused on the older applicants .. one of the best workers I ever had in my Team was recruited at age 59 ... .

Half the jobs I apply for have a note at the bottom saying 'we particularly welcome applications from ethnic minorities'. Whatever the reason for this, it is a little frustrating - why should another person get priority over me simply because of the colour of their skin?
Obviously this is happening to address an imbalance in the workforce, but in the 'here and now', if I am a better candidate, should I not get the job?
In answer to your question, yes I am fairly certain that discrimination still happens, though perhaps less than it used to. The discrimination might be harder to detect now, but no doubt it is still there.

Yes, there is discrimination against White people wanting to join the Police Force. Asian and minority groups are looked upon more favourably even to the extent of taking less capable candidates in order to have a 'more representative' force in some areas. One guy is suing at the moment for discrimination.

Well, legally pretty much all discrimination is outlawed - unless its because you are over weight or ugly, then we cans till get away with it.
But in real life, people still discriminate, even if its subconsciously. Age discrimination is going to take a long time to be seen as unacceptable because it is so ingrained in business culture.
It is possible that we get away with it less, but it also means we've just got smarter at doing it too.

There was, is, and will always be discrimination throughout the world. There is no way personal preferences can be taken out of everyday life. Even if it isn't a conscious effort, discrimination plays a role in everyday life.

ive experienced discrimination on several occassions on nationality and religious grounds, ive been made to do all the shitty jobs had things shouted at me when i was at the other end of the yard of course by some coward who was in hiding. a workmate of mine who was the same religion frequently has his lunch threw in the bin. 2 years of hell,it still exists where im from. in britain i experienced no discrimination at all.
