im 19 and i smoke have done since i was 8 omg eh but im wantin to loss weight and also start a family with my husband and i need to stop smoking i need help any ideas ????

first of all, discipline is the key. you should not stop immediately. that wouldn't do. everyday, just minimize the number of sticks you are smoking until you are down to one then not smoking at all! this could take long but more effective. your body needs adjustment so do it in a process.

See you doctor. Im on my four day off giving up smoking Im on patches and on a 12 week program. They offer support and talk about all the side effects and how to cope with them plus the stimuli that make you reach for a cigerette. And how to avoid them. The 2 main things that I would say which I'm finding helpful. Are,
1) Tell all thoughs around you that you plan to quit and require there support. And that you may get grumpy or irritatable and to offer positive support to you in such times.
2) Get a clear jar (A used jam jar or coffee jar washed out should do) and put the money u would spend on cigerettes in it each day so you can see the money building up and plan something nice to do with it after you have achieved your goal.

How ever what works for another person might not work for you so try looking at verious methods and try them so see which is the most effective for you. By trying them at the very least you will cut down on the amount you smoke so when you do find the right one you are already a step in the right direction and Hopefully you wont relapes.

You have several options.

Quit altogether and either go alone or go see your dr.
Quit gradually and reduce the amount per day.

Personally i would go with the first as it would be so easy to just have that one more.
If you really are determined then set a day...not too far away, and make sure by then you have no ciggies left. If you need help go and see your Doc who will give you lots of advice and maybe some things like patches and gum if that's what you want.

If you have a non-smoking friend or relative ask them to come and stay for a week. Or with kids holidays coming up do you have a niece/nephew/brother/sister? Knowing the dangers of smoking round children and how much they love to tell tales then you would have no option but to stick to it.

If you do this you could have lots planned to keep you busy. If this would not be practical then just arrange to be busy. Days out, cinema etc. Just make sure it is not nights out at the local pub!

I have never smoked but my Mum gave up when I was around 8 and she did the above. That and a determination to do it made her give up. Like you she had smoked for many years but found that with other things to fill her time she could do it.

I find I have the same thing with chocolate. I can avoid it easily as long as I don't sit around bored. So keep busy and avoid the places that you would regularly light up.

hiya pharmacies do quit smoking sessions where you will have a one to one meeting with a qualified member of staff and discuss ways of quitting any problems youve been having and they can help you through it. not only are they good support but finding the right NRT (nicotine replacement treatment) can be a tricky and may need some experimentation before you find one thats suits you inhalation products are popular. you need friends that are going to support you through this if they are offering you a cigarette each time they go out for one. If saying no isnt enough or the pressure is still on you take one and break it up in front of them, theyll be so shocked you did it that theyll get the hint that your serious about it! finding a substitute for those habitual times can help and that can literally be anything lollypops are found to be helpfull because it mimics the hand to mouth thing. another great way is to get a glass sweet jar and to put it somewhere visible to you and each week put the money that you would normally spend on cigarettes in it; then use the money for a treat at a big milestone such as a shopping trip or a holiday. by making it visible its like an extra strong incentive because you can see your money grow try putting a picture of your reward in your pocket or your desk at work. i have also heard that music can help during stressful times when it is most tempting to light up try doing some gentle excercises to relive the anxiety good music whatever your taste may be can work wonders^_^ good luck giving up hope this helps xxxx

Step #1 is a darn good reason to quit

I did the cut back a few every week because I had tried everything else

When I got below 1/2 pack a day I did the nicotine inhaler and Ativan an anti anxiety drug

I quit a 5 pack a day habit after smoking 55 + years

Good for you. It's one of the best decisions you will make in your life.The main thing that will determine how successful you will be is the amount of self determination you have and that you are totally convinced of the advantages of your action.Without this determination you will find it difficult.What are you going to use to help you?You will be offered patches to wear, chewing gum, both of which act by being nicotine replacements.There are also drugs,tablets to help.These work by suppressing the part of the brain that desires nicotine and help reduce craving.The best of these is Varicicline(Champix) which is a new drug and quite effective.(It is only available on prescription) The other method is psychology. There are books available that advise you how to commence stopping,how to deal with different cravings and desires and how to defeat the habit of puffing on cigarettes.All of these methods have their advantages and disadvantages.You will have to make a choice. Help is at hand from counsellors, self help groups, local doctors run stop smoking clinics.The NHS has a stop smoking advice line.Talk to who you think can help you. But stick to your decision and good luck.

To stop smoking it requires dedication - as too does losing weight, so unless you are determined it's not worth even starting. I have tried and failed many times to give up smoking and lose weight. But when I was forced with a situation in which I had no choice but to do both (hospitlisation for six months) I succeeeded. I now haven't smoked for nearly eleven years but the weight has slowly gone back on.

I would suggest seeing your GP as they often have special 'clinic's' for people wishing to stop smoking /lose weight - which can hep because you know you're going back for another 'check up'

Alternativley try patches, not buying ciggies or fattening food...It is hard but it'll be worth it if you do it

Its so hard to quit but you sound in the right mind frame, i will warn you sometimes quitting can make you gain a couple of pounds if you arent carefull not to replace the cigs with snacks. My advice is to pick a day bin your cigs and be determined you will quit, think of all those health benefits! my little tips are, have an orange handy at all times (may sound wierd) but when you crave a cig eat the orange instead it keeps you occupied. Get chewing gum for the same reason, try not to be around people that smoke for the first few weeks, weeks u cud try nicotine patches ect but personally they have never worked for me or any of my mates long term. Go swimming. I love to swim, on hot days. Take a friend/member of your family, with you. Go out and get some fresh air and see, if there are any local areas.. near you. Or, if you'd rather be inside, you always have the cinema. I like to use the computer and play on games, when I'm really bored. There are loads of fun online games, where you can meet new people and have fun, bearing in mind, you look after yourself. You can always go shopping or ride a bike. You can talk on here/ask questions or make your own website. Or.. you can just chill out and watch the telly, with a nice.. ice cold, glass of lemonade, lol! :)

Talk to your Doctor about Chantix. It is a new smoking cessation Rx. That has worked really well for several people I know. Good Luck!
