I swapped out my pristella tetras for a group of 7 Congo Tetras. They're all a little over 2 inches. The tank has been stable for 7 months now, and I have a 2nd fish about to kill over in a week.

A day after introducing them to the tank, one of them has lost control of his ability to swim. he's upside down, vertical, all over the palce. He looks like he has some energy, but he don't look so hot. Its like his body is a weight & his head is the only buoyant part of his body.

Is there anything I can do fix him? What's the correct medicine to buy?

I'll assume you have checked on the various common causes such as diet or water conditions since your not a novice. Two things could cause this that come to mind and neither is a good thing.

First, the well known swimmbladder infection. For that I vastly prefer the antibiotic Furanace. It's absorption rate is far better than many other antibiotics out there. Maracyn TC would be my second choice. Medicated food would be a good idea as well.

The other potential cause would be internal parasites. There are 3-4 different one's that can cause this type of swimming problem and none of them really easy to treat, but Clout would be the best bet along with medicated food.

Best of luck with them, that's got to be my all time favorite tetra. Feel free to email me if I can help

Are there any signs for a disease? Like big bellies or white dots or something? Also, what are your pH, KH, etc.???
Congo Tetras like soft water with low pH and low KH, if your water doesnt fit at all for them, that could be the reason why they are acting like that, but it is probably a disease.

More input please...
