Forged aluminum pistons are much more durable than the factory cast aluminum. You can buy them from many different manufacturers. I had a 01 GT awhile ago, and had a set custom made by CP pistons. Installation requires removal, and a complete teardown then rebuild of your current engine. The idea behind replacing your factory pistons with forged ones is when performing severe modifications to your vehicle (nitrous, supercharging, turbocharging etc...) your ring lands and piston crown won't explode or melt. More power made means higher pressures and temperatures in your combustion chambers, and therefore more stress on your mechanical parts

With forged material, a steel billet is heated till it is red hot and glowing. The billet is put into a die and then it is pressed into shape usually by a press.

If it is cast, then the metal is made to a liquid and poured into a mold and cooled until it returns to a solid.
