Don't give something that relates to their work! That's like giving a maid a vacuum cleaner for a gift. Give something thoughtful and unique that will last, preferably that s/he can display on a desk or shelf at home. I once gave a crystal shamrock (good luck symbol) to someone who had been especially helpful to me.

Beyond a "Thank U" card, a gift card to a store where they can purchase supplies for their students is always a plus. Many parents aren't aware of the out-of-pocket costs that teachers incur w/o being reimbursed.

I think something personal they can keep on a desk or hang on a wall is great. I have gifts from many years ago and still remember each child that gave it to me and for what.

An assortment of bookmarks. You could also give them an entire week of good behavior. Teachers appreciate and deserve all the cooperation they can get..

Scented candles, candy, chocolate, gift certificate. Maybe a nice figurine of something she/he collects. It could be also be a book, or even a plant.
