It has only occured in the morning for the last two days.

Could be a waterline that has air in it. If there is a toilet near the noise area, it may be the fill valve for the tank. Sometimes when they start going bad, the water "seeps" into the tank and this causes a noise like a reed instrument.

Check to see if you have some plumbing behind that wall, may just be air releasing through a vent or a possible leak.

mice....if it was the house settling then the sound wouldn't be as predictable..the mice have just finished their evening out in your kitchen and they are hiding from you everymorning. set some poison down and if it doesn't stop within the week,..then it ain't mice.
