Majority opinion is the cherry blossom...but, it might be the peach tree. The cherry blossom is more big in Japan, but since you mentioned Mulan....the peach flower is also pink and has more significance in Chinese culture becaue it represents longevity and wards off evil.

I think that the tree you are describing is a Japanese Flowering Cherry. My parents had one in their front yard.
