the libs are living in a dream if they really think that the enemy will not come to our country and kill as many Americans as possible...the libs refuse to see that we are in a war..as a matter of fact the Islamic fascists have been at war with us for years....thats what makes the libs so dangerous!!! and they MUST be defeated!!

Okay time to critique your limited logical undertaking in understanding this kind of situation. A terror plot was STOPPED! It didn't happen! That is a success, not a failure. The most effective way to combat terrorism is not by going around the world creating more terrorist, but to look for the ones that are hiding in the country, which was not something we did before 9/11. This is a perfect example of that anti terror doctrine working. So far the governments law enforcement and intelligence efforts have produced far better results than the application of military force around the world which has created a far worse geo political and geo strategic situation for us; has spread, stressed, and strained the military resources of the United States, and has diminished our global standing, negating our ability to effectively lead the international system as we have since the end of the cold war, and has increased the terror threat to the United States not reduced it. American military occupation of the Middle East is primarily responsible for continued Muslim anti Americanism. Their hate of this country comes less from religious or ideological predispositions as propagated by the mass media, and more from historical experience. American military occupation of the Middle East heavily resembles European colonization of the Middle East, and current Israeli foreign policy toward Palestinian territories. The longer we stay in the Middle East the worse things will get. The lesson that you should learn is that as powerful as the United States is, and it is incomparably more powerful than any middle eastern nation or organization, it is not powerful enough to, even with Israel, reorganize the middle east political climate completely to its liking, and that with the tactics of the terrorist being extensively guerilla Americas military might has been completely negated.

My husband just left Fort Dix in January and may be returning for a short stint in a couple of months. I am afraid if we leave Iraq now, we will see more articles like this.

Al Queda started or at least grew strong from fighting the Soviet Union in Afghanistan. Al Queda won.
That is what they are trying to do now in Iraq with the U.S. Much of their attention and resources are tied up in Iraq.
Better there than here!
If we leave Iraq, Al Queda will emerge stronger and more confident than ever!

Absolutely I do.
Let's examine this. Four Yugoslavians, one Jordanian, and one Turk planned to attack multiple bases in the US.
Have you ever visited a military base? I once has to make a sales call on a local base. I'm an American, I don't look like a foreigner, I speak perfect English, and I still had my car emptied, sniffed by 2 dogs, examined top bottom, inside and out. They used these mirrors on wheels to look under my car. They popped my backseat to look under it.
All this was accomplished by camo'd and vested Marines, 8 of them, with automatic weapons at the ready. And this is a reserve base scheduled for decommissioning.
Now put the increased security at an active military base into the equation, and the spray and pray tactics of the typical terrorist (to say nothing of their intelligence -they took a video tape to a commercial firm to have it converted to DVD -duh) and basically you have an equation which whose answer is.........dead terrorists 6, dead troops, zero.
I fail to see how anything going on in Iraq would influence these people, other than it ticked them off enough to make them want to take action.

Does it matter to you that they came into the country from Yugoslavia? I understand they were of Albanian ethnicity, but look at a map, sir. It's next to Italy (well, mostly).
Maybe we should cut and run in Iraq and demolish Albania and Yugoslavia. Wouldn't that be a fair compromise given the cold solid evidence you've laid before us today?

I don't understand how you cons equate the occupation of Iraq with America being safe.
So you're saying people can't smuggle items onto airplanes anymore?
Are you saying the occupation of Iraq is guarding our country's water supplies?
Are you saying the occupation of Iraq is on constant watch over the nuclear reactors at various college campuses across the country?
Occupying Iraq prevents terrorists from putting a nuclear weapon onto a freight car abord an ocean tanker and sailing it right into any of our harbors?
You must live in La La Land. I'll notify the post office to forward your mail.

Does it not occur to anyone that our actions in Iraq are the very reason more are plotting against us? We need to step up and be the world leader we once were, not the world's ideological zealot out to remake the world in our own image. We have already failed in Iraq. Doing the same thing over and over expecting a different result is the definition of insanity. Leadership is recognizing a failed policy and choosing a better new course.

Correct me if I am wrong, but aren't we still in Iraq? And yet this still happened. So yes, we will be much safer, as we will be able to focus on the terrorist cells here. Please let me know the connection between 911 and Iraq?? What a shame that the majority of brainwashed conservatives think that we are in Iraq because Sadam Hussein was responsible for 911. and what is even more disgusting than that, is that the republican party lets their sheeple believe that.
