The alien had large ears, and he'd crashed in his spaceship on Earth. Two kids, a brother and sister if I remember correctly, found and befriended him. While he's there, he helps the kids with bullies. I'm not sure entirely of the ending of the movie, but I'm pretty sure the alien makes it back home. The movie is not animated. It's been about 15 years since I saw it, but I'm pretty sure the details I've provided are correct.

That sounds like "Mac And Me" (1988)
ET didn't have large ears.

V The Second Generation News Update Update: 10/2/06 Many people are naturally wondering why getting the new V sequel made into a book or mini-series could possibly take so long -- unfortunately it's the nature of the business these days. Warner's Legal Department is trying to get the complicated domestic license deal closed on the novel and they assure us it will happen within the month. They are also beginning to seek a sale for the foreign rights to the novel. Warner Home Video is working diligently to help cobble together the necessary nineteen million dollar funding for the mini-series. Hopefully in this lifetime.

Mac and Me had an alien with large ears but I don't remember any bullies. That one was about an alien who was trying to find his parents and get home.

Meatballs 2 also had an alien in it and I remember him helping the boys get back at the bullies from the camp across the lake.

Does that help??

Nukie

Two aliens, Nukie and Miko, crash-land on different parts of the Earth. Miko is quickly captured by an American space agency, while Nukie, who has landed in the middle of the African savannah, wanders about until he befriends two young children. Will Miko survive the scientists' experiements? Will Nukie ever be reunited with his space-travelling companion?

ET, The Navigator, those are the only two kids with aliens movies in the 80's that I can think of.

Yes ... it's definitely ET.

Starred Drew Barrimore. I remember she was about 7 and she scared the s***t out of me when she was in the closer and ET saw her and she screaned.

Great movie .... might just get it out this weekend to watch again.

Thanks.
