People are upset about gas prices going up. Democrats say they will investigate. Democrats also want to increase the gas tax. Increasing the gas tax will increase the price of gas.

Does this mean it is OK to raise the price of gas only if the Democrats benefit from it?

Of course. The producers and investors in gas don't deserve profits, the government does.

there is no plan to raise the gas taxes. who, with the exception of the last 3 months, has controlled congress since 1992?

the last time gas taxes were raised was 1993 right after the republican revolution in congress. Newt was the speaker then and the democrats were the minority .

Yes. The gas tax increase has always been part of the liberal agenda. Liberals use the falsehood that higher gas taxes mean more people would use mass transit. This is true but only to a small degree. Just how would those of us in rural areas use mass transit, it doesn't exist. The liberals have wanted higher gas taxes for years, but not for any other reason than to fund their worthless programs and do favors for their friends. What surprises me is that so few people see through this

I think the gas tax should go into infrastructure or the environment, so yes raise it, but cut the profits going into ceos' pockets. Gas is expensive in Europe, but the money goes more places than the pockets of 4 men.

The government has no incentive to reduce gas prices. Since most states charge sales tax on gas, the increased price fills their coffers up at an alarming rate.

The one thing that can bring the gas prices down is Bush opening up the oil reserves. He is the first president to refuse to do this to bring gas prices down. Yet, he still freely 'loans' out of the oil reserves to his oil company cronies.
Republican leader Bush is the problem, the Dems can try but, he will just veto anything that does not make him richer.

I have noticed that hypocrisy. Seems taxes don't have an impact on prices in the Democrats view of the world.

The government and "big oil" has contributed to America's addiction to cheap foreign OIL for decades instead of encouraging the development of alternative fuels that are less profitable and don't require the resources of mammoth corporations. It's been just one more conspiracy that the American taxpayer has been paying for year after year after year. -RKO- 05/08/07
