Of the two I liked Dark Passage better. I think it had to be the first 'plastic surgery' movie and I felt like the chemistry was better between bogey and Bacall than any other movie.

The Maltese Falcon was good too, and one of my favorites. Sam Spade was the classic good tough guy Private investigator. Good lines, and lots of plot.

Can't tell you a thing about "Dark Passage". But the Maltese Falcon in one awesome movie. Ranks right up there as one of the best classics of all time in my book. I have my copy right next my copy of Casablanca! Another great film!

I've seen "the Maltese Falcon" a few times, and I always enjoy it because it is set in San Francisco, it has a first person narration (by Bogart), is mysterious and compelling, and Lauren Bacall is just so...watchable. We see her through Bogie's eyes during much of the first part of the film--a rarity in camerawork for those days.

"The Maltese Falcon" is enjoyable in a different way: it is so perfectly classic noir. Bogie's Sam Spade is a personality so dry and wise crackin', Elisha Cook Jr. is as kooky as ever, and Peter Lorre is as creepy as ever. It's only fault (and it's only a matter of opinion) is that it's almost too pat; I prefer films that are more off kilter.

Don't know Dark Passage. But The Maltese Falcon is one of my favourite films. I just love Sydney Greenstreet: "I like a man who likes to talk." The cinematography is excellent too - the whole sequence when Sam first meets the Fat Man is one continuous shot.

Didn't watch "Dark Passage".
"Maltese Falcon" was an excellent film however.
