I have bought lovely fluffy towels and want to try and maintain the same fluffy texture as before I seem to loose that and end up with rough towels...

Wash on warm setting and dry on medium setting.
Avoid fabric softeners as they build up and eventually affect the towels ability to absorb water.
If you wish to hang them out in the sun, hang to mostly dry and use dryer to fluff for last few minutes.
Check the lint filter on your dryer. If it is full of "fluff" after drying your towels, that may be the reason your towels are not holding up. You may have hard water and a water softener might help.

How do I care for my bath towels?

* The best way to launder a towel is to machine wash it in warm water with a mild soap. Only use bleach on white towels. Tumble dry on cotton setting and fold promptly.
* If you air dry your towels, shake them before hanging, and then shake them again when they're dry to fluff up the terry loops.
* When washing your towels, avoid fabric softeners since they contain silicones that coat the terry fibers, stiffen towels and make them practically water-repellent. Many towels will retain their soft texture for years without the use of fabric softener.
* Be sure to wash brand new towels before use; wash dark colors separately. Be aware that the first few times you wash deep-toned towels, they'll rid themselves of excess dye. This "bleeding" will stop after three or four washings.
* To freshen towels and keep them smelling sweet, add a half-cup of baking soda to the wash cycle.
* Another nice way to freshen towels is to add a lavender rinse to the wash cycle. People have used lavender for centuries for cleaning purposes due to its fresh scent and antiseptic properties. (To make the rinse: Fill a small muslin sachet with lavender flowers. Bring 3 cups of water to boil in a saucepan. Add the sachet to the boiling water. Cover and simmer for 15 minutes. Add the resulting infusion to the rinse cycle of the wash.)

Never use fabric softener on towels, it coats the fiber and prevents absorption of water, and what else is a towel for?

Wash your towels in hot water with detergent. If there are
any germs you are trying to kill, add some Lysol--brown bottle.
Wash the towels once, rinse them twice. then dry on high heat. Rough towels are usually caused by not getting the soap out. Also I have bought some dryer balls, and I have found my laundry dries quicker and softer when I use them.

Warm to hot water. With the lighter colored towels, you can use hotter water. If they are darker, like navy blue or purple, or bright orange, you may want to use the warm water to preserve the brightness as well as the softness.
Don't overload the washer, make sure the detergent is mixed in well, and be careful don't overdry. Make sure you do use the dryer, as this makes the towels fluffier.
If I ever washed towels in cold water, they weren't fluffy very long, and it is safer (against bacteria) healthwise, to use the warmer water.

towels should always be washed on a 60 decree wash to get all the germs away. also should be tumble dryed after hanging out on the wash line. this should keep them nice and soft. you should not use fabric softner as this will stop the towels from drying you properly, especially if they are new towels

Always, Always wash your towles in the hottest water possible this helps to kill the germs and bactirica that set into towles. To keep them nice, fluffy and fresh try putting some white vinegar in the rinse cycle instead of fabric softner this will remove all the lint that collects on them, keep them fluffy, and make them smell great too. plus it is echo friendly and cost effective. Fabric softner can build up in clothes and make them less soft over time.

Good Luck!!!

If you want to disinfect them also and maintain the new look and feel then I would suggest using Warm water and one cup of White Vinegar, Vinegar will soften and deodorize and disinfect your towels and keep them fluffy and soft with every wash it will also keep them bright looking. Good Luck !

I would wash towels in warm water (if white, use hot water. The roughness you get isn't from washing them, but you need to use a fabric softener, either liquid or the dryer sheets.

I would use hot water on the towles to get them there cleanest. Then I would use a fabric softener like Downey and Downey has a fabric softener ball that you can use so you don't have to figger out when to put it in the laundry. Then I would also use dryer sheets (Bounce) in the dryer with the towles. It works.
