have we won the war or have we lost it?

Good morning Meetha....I don't believe we have lost the conflict in Iraq, not as yet but I don't feel that we are gaining either. In my opinion we have done what we came to do so now we need to redirect our troops for other purposes. I feel that some of them need to come home and leave what we can to help their military and citizens of Iraq. Now, I also feel that if our diplomats can't work out some solution or agreement with Iran that this issue could become more involved to where we will need to continue to keep our troops overseas. Never ending battle. If this war continues without some type of resolution then I foresee this ending up as a 10 yr. war just like Vietnam. I hope it doesn't but by the way things are going on now with Bush vetoing Congress and the House then this war may continue unless Bush is stopped. I don't like where this war is going. Have a blessed day!

Hopefully, after the next elections, we will be out of there stat! There is no "win" to it at all...it was another farce of a Bible-wielding, delussional extremist.

I, personally, am sooo sorry that we allowed the Bush Administration to have shamed this country no end...if I had my way, none of them would be granted Social Security or any further benefits for the damage they have wreaked upon our nation....I can't believe this man & his goons haven't been shot or blown up by We the People, let alone their terroristic phobials....Note that even his wife is giving him the boot!

Hopefully, a new & invigorated set of candidates, which are going to be historic this coming year, with both a woman and a man of color running for the helm...we may see some long needed adjustments being made. I'm going for Hillary...she's got more balls than most of our past prez.s, though I would love to see her & Obama run together as a co-presidency...wouldn't that just rock some socks! We sure need it after the Bush bout! Can you tell I'm sooo not happy with this guy & his band of merry idiots???LOL

the war to oust saddam was won decisively. the war against saddam loyalists and insurgents is still raging but gathering momentum from iraqis who are tired of all the killing that they are turning in insurgents and sympathizers.

By the way, Kurdistan is more peaceful than the streets of LA. its been that way since '92. Perhaps it is because they see america as liberators who finally made good on a belated promise. Sunnis and shias still have no idea who the real enemy is and the results is their coninued killing of iraqis and a few american soldiers.

The war will never end as long as muslims are bent on fighting jihad across the globe. Incidentally, what about the other wars and dictatorships around the globe, why dont you care about them? (sudan, zimbabwe, pakistan, cuba, north korea?)

You ask an interesting question. One worth pondering. Is the purpose of this war to win or to lose? Or protection? This was not a war of territory expansion; therefore, I do not think of it in terms of a Win or a Loss.

In my opinion at least, this was a war about protection (at least that was the marketing behind it). Do I feel safer than I did 6-years ago? Yes I do. If that is a win...then yes...we won.

Interesting question, what defines win? The following are the highly publicized rationals for war given to Congress by the Bush Administration (BA):

"Weapons of Mass Destruction" - based on the info by the Iraq Survey Group this assertion is false.

"Saddam Hussein's alleged connection to Al-Qaeda" - he's no longer in power and dead, so if he ever was (still can't prove it) connected to Al-Qaeda it's a non-issue.

I guess that would constitute a win, thus the famous "Mission Accomplished" speech. But, the stated goals of the invasion, according to Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld, were:
* Self-defense
o find and eliminate weapons of mass destruction, weapons programs, and terrorists
o collect intelligence on networks of weapons of mass destruction and terrorists
* Humanitarian
o end sanctions and deliver humanitarian support (According to Madeleine Albright, half a million Iraqi children had died because of sanctions.)
* United Nations Security Council Resolution
o Resolution 1205, made in 1998.
* Regime Change
o end the Saddam Hussein government
o help Iraq's transition to democratic self-rule
* Economic
o secure Iraq's oil fields and other resources

Pretty foggy goals, I think this would have gotten a failing grade in most business classes. What we have here is so similar to Vietnam it's ridiculous, do we not learn from history? I don't think the BA can plan their way out of a paper bag, and I think our troops are suffering for it. If these men and women were draftees instead of volunteers, would you be more vocal?

I SUPPORT OUR MEN AND WOMEN IN UNIFORM. That doesn't mean I have to support the BA and it's idiotic, ultra conservative, religious, right-wing, and illegal policies. Right now, I think the best way to support our troops is to call for their return home.

Besides the physical danger the troops are in, every extension on their tour of duty increases their mental risks. We've known since WWII that long tours equals mental health issues. Do we really need another generation of Vietnam vets? For those who are still sitting on the fence or are pro-BA, look at one of the Vietnam vets sitting on the street in most major cities who is so mentally broken he cannot lead a "normal" life. Now picture your son, daughter, brother, sister, uncle, etc sitting there, and ask yourself "What do we gain?"

According to Cheney, we have already won. The only slight problem is that the "terrorists" are too stupid to realize that they have lost. Depending on how dumb they are, it might take them another 20 years to realize that they have lost. Yes, Cheney tells it like it is.

I don't know, but I do know that troops are over there dying and getting wounded so until they get back. I support them and I am going to keep my opinion out of it.

America can have a difference of opinion and complain and moan a little, but it's like a family. Only we can say bad things about ourselves. If it came down to it, I believe we can win anything. We didn't become such a powerful country for no reason.

The wars going just as our idiosyncratic President and his administration wants it to go! Keep things in flux, keep the American people in the dark, and keep things in chaos until Bush and Cheney have managed to wrest control of the rich Iraqi oil fields away from the puppet government they've installed. That way Bush and Cheney can assure all of their OIL buddies that America's addiction to cheap foreign OIL can continue instead of the government supporting alternative fuel resources that might not be as profitable. We don't intend to 'win' or 'lose' this 'war'. All we intend to do is remain in that country until we've sucked very drop of OIL from its sands. If that's not the case, WHY are we building the largest U.S. embassy in the world on a 104-acre site in downtown Baghdad overlooking the 'new' puppet government installed by the Bush administration? -RKO- 05/08/07

Hard and long and we are losing some very brave young people...but at least this country is standing up to global terrorism...not like some other spineless European countries that sit back and watch us do all the work...I guess they forgot World War II....
